I
have been involved with the shiba since 1999 and it seems as
time passes , my passion for the breed increases if that is
possible . Any matings that occur are thoroughly researched
and scrutinised in order to produce shibas that ex cell in
temperament and true shiba type .
I
concentrate my energy on enjoying my dogs by means of hiking ,
camping , fishing and just everyday walks . As they are
trained , they are reliable off lead but I know my dogs very
well and will only allow them off lead if I am comfortable
with the surroundings . Routine is good , they do enjoy the
same walks which is a major advantage when having them off
lead as they know where they are able to run free and where
they must be on lead .
THE
SHIBA INU
The
shiba inu is a very intelligent, alert, vibrant breed of dog
that is a privilege to own with many wonderful characteristics
that make them the breed that they are . A clean ,
fastidious dog , the shiba is unlike no other breed descending
from miniature wolves and dingoes from Japan thousands of
years ago . Their unique appearance always seems to turn
heads.
The
shiba inu is a hunting dog and a superb one at that . Their
size allows them to move very quickly twisting and turning in
order to catch their prey .Their persistence and patience
allows them to track down small prey with relative ease . The
fact that they are so intelligent is also a main reason why
they are able to outsmart and outmanoeuvre other animals .
Generally
, shibas are a very laid back dog only releasing energy when
there is a need to do so being going for a walk , general play
with each other or investigating a noise that is out of the
norm . Most are excellent watch dogs . Bitches have a
tendency to bark more so than males but only do for good
reason .
A
shiba is likely to bond with one person rather than a family .
They are a family dog but they will respect and love that one
person more rather than the family as a whole , as a result
they will generally only listen to that one person . They
are a stubborn breed and therefore do need rules and some sort
of guidance . Training is imperative to have a shiba that
knows the rules and it's boundaries . Once the shiba knows the
rules and its boundaries they can be controlled easier than
the dog that does whatever it likes . They will test you out
of the blue , nevertheless you must remind them who is
the boss . The bond between a shiba and their owner that the shiba loves
and adores is special , they know you are the master and you
as the master receives their respect admiration and
uncompromising commitment to you .
The
shiba inu in Japan is regarded as a national treasure and
indeed they are . Any dedicated shiba owner can vow to that
but to own a shiba requires commitment . They are unlike any
other breed as they are not your average dog . To own a shiba
and gain its respect and complete devotion to you is a most
rewarding experience and can only be truly understood by
owning your own shiba .
